In my Alberta Outdoorsmen column for May, I wrote about the perennial problem of not enough outdoors people becoming active members of conservation groups such as the Alberta Fish and Game Association. While the human population of Alberta has soared over the last 30 years, the numbers of hunters and anglers have dropped, and so have those who are active in the conservation of fish and wildlife. Many factors are at play here, but one of the most important might be the fragmentation of environmental and conservation groups, effectively marginalizing groups in the eyes of government and industry.
