On May 31st, I was pleased to be honoured by the Outdoor Writers of Canada with its Brock McRitchie Memorial Writing Award (1st Place) and 2nd Place, Magazine Column Award, both for “No Child Inside”, published in the Alberta Outdoorsmen. The Brock McRitchie Award is sponsored by Len McRitchie in memory of his son, and is presented “for excellence in depicting children learning about and enjoying the outdoors.”
In “No Child Inside”, I discussed how children benefit from outdoor activities, in terms of improving their learning skills, as well as their physical and mental health. The problem is that computers, video games and fear are keeping increasing numbers of our children indoors.
