Hey there Don! Thanks for the very informative site you’ve got there. I noticed in one of your pages a small and compact flint and steel (with the striker/blade sliding into the wood). I have a similar one, and find it very convenient especially for its small size. I bought it quite a while back here in Calgary, and I’d like to get more but can’t seem to locate any. I could make it, I suppose, if I can find a piece of rectangular ferro/flint (all I’ve found so far are round). The only firestarters I can find these days are these fancy and colourful gizmos. Any help is appreciated, Patrick

    Hi Patrick,
I got that one from the Alberta Hunter Education course when it was run by government. So, I’m not sure they offer that anymore. But you could contact AHEIA (www.aheia.com) and see if they do. I see their online store is being renovated, so you may need to phone them.
Hope this helps and thanks for the kind words about my blog.
    Don
